WIMS Rio Frequent Questions:

Answered by Technical Sales Engineer

For facilities looking to transition away from excel spreadsheets, pen and paper, and legacy solutions, navigating this process can come with a lot of questions. And that's why we asked Hach WIMS & WIMS Rio Technical Sales Engineer Tyrone Yan to answer some of the most frequent questions that utilities ask in their search for the best solution for optimizing operations.

Staying compliant requires compliance software

Today, you and other industry professionals face a series of challenges as you monitor, treat, and manage water and wastewater in your communities.

Contaminants and negative trends can emerge quickly and need to be addressed before they get out of hand. Reporting errors can result in steep fines and lead to serious impacts for the health of your community.

Inefficiencies and expenses can compound as regulations change and become more complex, making it harder to stay ahead and maintain compliance amidst PFAS, lead, and other emerging contaminants. Enhancing our water management systems has never been more critical.

If you're looking for a solution that's built to integrate with your current systems, automate your workflows, provide historical data, and simplify reporting, look no further:

How does SCADA historian data get to the cloud? Is it duplicated?

Integration tools are used to pull data from SCADA and upload it to the cloud. Data is not duplicated, as Rio collects data at longer intervals than SCADA.

Can WIMS Rio track regulatory compliance dates and send notifications for sampling and permit expirations?

Rio's Sample Manager and Scheduling tool can track sampling schedules, but it does not currently send notifications for upcoming sampling or track permit expirations.

Can WIMS Rio integrate data from instruments directly?

While Rio does not have direct integration with instruments, it allows for mobile data entry, LIMS integration, and SCADA integration.

Is WIMS Rio viable for use on phones?

Yes, WIMS Rio allows data collection on mobile devices. Many utilities find that by integrating their data through mobile, field work becomes more efficient, and operators aren't relying on transcribing handwriting or carrying around bulky tablets that can be misplaced or hard to navigate under the glare of the sun. We currently offer Rio Mobile, the option to make field operations easier and more efficient by syncing data directly to Hach WIMS or WIMS Rio via tablet or mobile. With Rio Mobile, remove error-prone and time-intensive tasks like manual reporting and duplicated data entry.

Can WIMS Rio be used to optimize processes based on lab data only?

Yes, Rio allows manual data entry, mobile data entry, LIMS integration, and SCADA integration to optimize from various sources, including lab data.

Are there compatibility issues with using WIMS Rio's templates with existing LIMS?

Rio works seamlessly with LIMS, and integration tools have been developed to ensure compatibility with various LIMS available in the market.

What security measures are in place for data stored in WIMS Rio?

Rio is built and hosted on the Microsoft Azure Cloud Platform, which adheres to strict security compliance programs and features physical security, password policies, redundant disk storage, and disaster recovery policies.

Does the system have copies of NYS DEC and NYS DOH report formats, or do we need to search them out?

The software offers import functionality, allowing data to be mapped into the required template for these reports.
