EGU abstract only. Three component hydrograph separation in a sampled event shows that 3% – 14% is rainfall, 45% to 58% is soil water and 30% to 46% is groundwater source. At the beginning of the event streamflow is mainly composed of riparian groundwater. With increasing rainfall amount streamflow is principally influenced by soil water and rain water. At the end of the event a sharp rise in the water table on the hillslopes and the development of subsurface connectivity contribute to sustain groundwater in the lower part of the catchment producing a marked streamflow response.
