New Zealand is like a giant laboratory for investigation of broad-scale and long-term impacts of land-use change on water quality. This study looks at what can be learned from the period from 1989-2014. The biggest impact is from high producing pastures with high nutrient inputs. Plantation forestry was strongly associated with visual clarity and particulate nutrients associated with harvesting generated sediment runoff and nutrient mobilization.
