EGU abstract only. Systematic errors due to gauge calibration against a reference gauge and non-systematic errors due to intstrument resolution and precision are evaluated within a Bayesian framework for error propagation. In some cases streamflow uncertainty is mainly due to errors in stage. Discrimination between systematic and non-systematic errors is especially important for long-term flow averages.
