The big challenges of hydrological monitoring  have been spatial scale and temporal resolution. The response has to be big enough to be resolved from a distance and the response has to be slow enough that gaps in the update frequency don’t matter. For very large systems like the Ganges-Brahmaputra the many advantages of space-based monitoring may outweigh these limitations.
