Two new papers focus on advances in predicting atmospheric rivers. What is surprising to me is not that they have now developed high resolution climate models capable of resolving atmospheric rivers but that existing climate models, apparently, don’t have that ability. It is amazing that any climate models can produce credible results if they can’t even resolve meteorological features that are as hydrologically impactful as atmospheric rivers.
